Know Your Rights - Quick Reference

You have the right to remain silent

You do not have to answer questions about where you were born, your immigration status, or how you entered the U.S.

You have the right to refuse a search

Without a warrant signed by a judge, you can refuse to let officers search your home, car, or belongings.

You have the right to an attorney

If you are detained, you have the right to contact a lawyer. You do not have to sign anything without speaking to an attorney first.
